Step 4 of 5 · The way of the Kingdom

Love

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself.”
Matthew 22:37-39

Those who walk the road of heaven are known by love: love for God that overflows into compassion for every neighbour.

When asked what matters most, Jesus summed up all of scripture in two commands: love God and love your neighbour. The Kingdom of Heaven is a kingdom shaped by love.

In Matthew 25, the King says, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger and visiting the sick are acts done for Christ Himself.

Paul writes that without love, even great faith and generosity amount to nothing (1 Corinthians 13). Love is patient, kind, and keeps no record of wrongs, and "love never fails."

Take a step today

Choose one person today, perhaps someone overlooked, and show them a quiet, practical act of kindness.
